Take your home cooking to the next level with Miele hobs

If you’re a keen chef or just someone who likes to cook up healthy meals quickly and easily, a good-quality hob is an essential piece of kitchen technology. Helping you to sauté, fry and steam food to perfection, a high-quality hob can make the difference between a good meal and a great one.

One of the best hob manufacturers out there is Miele. Known for its durable, stylish and innovative products, the brand has a great selection of hobs for you to choose from. To help you find the right hob for your kitchen, we’re taking a look at three of the best models on the market.

Miele KM6322 Induction hobMiele KM6322 614mm Wide 4 Zone inc 2 Flex Induction Hob

Induction hobs have been growing in popularity for some years now. Incredibly energy efficient, they can help you minimise the amount you spend on electricity and make your home that little bit greener.

What’s more, as induction hobs only heat the pan and not the area surrounding the pan, they’re very safe to use. This makes induction hobs a popular choice for families with young children as well as chefs who want complete control over their cooking.

The Miele KM6322 is an innovative hob with versatile cooking capabilities. Its cooking zones can either be used separately or combined into a single, large cooking area for unparalleled flexibility. When combined into one cooking zone, the hob will help you to heat large pans and casserole dishes quickly and evenly.

The model features advanced pan size recognition technology to ensure that heat is directed to where it needs to be. It can also be automatically locked to prevent accidents when the hob isn’t in use.

Miele KM6115 574mm Wide 4 Zone Induction Hob

The KM6115 features four separate cooking zones. Each of these zones has nine different heat settings, giving you complete control over your cooking. These cooking zones heat up almost instantly, allowing you to get your ingredients boiling, simmering or frying fast. Like the KM6322, the KM6115 has pan size recognition, so you’ll only as little energy as possible when preparing your meals.

Miele KM3010 gas hob 4 burnerMiele KM3010 4 Zone Gas Hob with Ceramic Glass Base

Although induction hobs are an excellent option for all keen cooks, there are many people out there who will never move away from traditional gas cooking. Gas hobs give the chef full control over the intensity and level of the heat their food is exposed to.

The Miele KM3010 has four cooking zones and a ceramic glass base. The durable and stylish unit has a thermoelectric heating device built in. This will cut the gas supply to the appliance if the flame is ever extinguished.

No matter which Miele hob you choose, your new appliance is guaranteed to take your home cooking to another level.

When something is designed well, we often don’t even think about its functionality when using it. In fact, the less you think about the usability of your kitchen appliances, the more efficiently it means they’re working.

Trusted manufacturer Miele has often looked for ways to improve the way our kitchen appliances work. Innovations like FlexiClip runners and Push2Open drawers have made their ovens and other appliances quick and easy to use and reduced the stress of working in the kitchen.

One area that the manufacturer has spent considerable time working on is control systems. Well-designed control systems should be intuitive to use and simple enough for even novice cooks to master quickly. As all tech and TV fans will know, Samsung has long led the way in cutting-edge audio visual technology. For years now, the brand has been pushing at the boundaries of LED, LCD and HDR systems, creating ever more spectacular products and images along the way.

One of Samsung’s newest TVs combines the latest in audio visual technology with ultra high resolution images. This high tech, high impact TV is set to revolutionise the way we watch movies, shows and sporting events and bring the highest quality video to people across the UK.

If you’re an early adopter looking to get ahead of the curve, or if you just want to know what TV will look like in the near future, a look at the Samsung QLED 8K TV is a must. Sleek, sophisticated and smart, it’s giving us the visual word of tomorrow, today.

What is QLED?

One of the things that makes this innovative TV set stand out from the crowd is its QLED technology. These days, many people are familiar with LED TVs. Used in most high tech sets, LED technology helps to make images clearer and more vibrant.

QLED technology takes things one step further. The Q stands for quantum dot. These dots range in size from two and ten nanometres and offer a different way for screens to produce colour. This makes QLED TVs much more efficient than LED sets that use a limited and inefficient combination of white LEDs and colour filters.

Samsung QLED vs conventional TV

Quantum dots produce different colours depending on their size. The smallest dots focus on blue light while the larger dots produce tones of red. TVs with quantum dot technology produce more heavily saturated and precisely defined primary colours than standard LED TVs. This ability to produce bright, vivid colours has made QLED technology increasingly popular and more and more brands are incorporating it into their TV sets.

8K TVs

Every few years, a new and exciting technology comes out that makes TV screens better, clearer and more defined. First, we had HD TV, then it was ultra HD, or 4K. Over the last few years, 4K has virtually become standard in high end TVs. Producing fantastic images and making movies, sports events and shows a joy to watch, 4K has revolutionised home cinema systems.

However, the dominance of 4K might be about the come to an end. True 8K TV sets, like Samsung’s QLED 8K TV, can now offer customers even higher quality and better resolution. These high tech TVs have four times as many pixels as 4K sets with a resolution of 7,680 by 4,320. This wealth of pixels gives 8K TVs an exceptionally high quality and provides viewers with a visual experience unlike anything they’ve ever seen.

As 8K technology is cutting edge, there are very few TVs available with true 8K screens. In fact, the Samsung QLED 8K TV is one of just a handful of commercially available sets.

8K Vs 4K

As 4K TVs themselves are relatively new to the market, a lot of TV fans may only have recently upgraded to the technology. The introduction of 8K technology may have many people wondering if their new 4K sets will soon become obsolete. However, at the moment very little content is broadcast in 8K. The 8K sets that are commercially available are designed for those who want to stay one step ahead of the tech curve and ensure they’re always watching the best images possible.

Good quality 4K TVs will therefore still be relevant for a number of years. As more and more content is produced in ultra high definition, the technology will increasingly be seen as standard. 8K, in turn, will also become more common and, as prices begin to drop and more content is produced in 8K, more and more people are likely to adopt the technology.

With 8K offering four times as much clarity as 4K, it’s highly likely it will eventually take over our screens. In just a few years’ time, all our TV programmes and movies may well be shot in 8K, giving viewers everywhere a clearer, more vibrant and more immersive experience.

8K content

At the moment, not a lot of content is actually produced in 8K. In Hollywood, some productions are now filmed using 6K cameras. While in Japan, an increasing number of companies are trialling 8K technology. Japanese national broadcaster NHK ran a series of 8K trials in 2015 and in 2016 the company announced it was successfully using 8K in some of its broadcasts.

In fact, these trials were so successful that NHK has announced it’s launching the world’s very first 8K television channel. This is likely to begin broadcasting in late 2018 and should be fully functional by the time the 2020 Tokyo Olympics roll around. A handful of other broadcasting companies are also looking into 8K trails with the number of 8K channels set to steadily increase over the coming years.

A few online content providers and hosting sites are also beginning to adopt 8K technology. Vimeo has recently added an update that supports HDR and 8K resolution videos, but you will need an 8K screen if you really want to enjoy this 8K output.

First impressions, they’re stylish and available in three different colours; bright orange, triple black and midnight blueSoundSport Free Wireless Headphones Orange 1

Pair to your smartphone using Bose’s stable Bluetooth connectivity, so you can seamlessly enjoy your latest tunes downloaded or streamed from your phone. A Multi-function button built onto the right bud of SoundSport Free Wireless Headphones allows you to play, pause, skip a track or take and end calls from your phone. Sound quality is as you would expect from Bose, fantastic. The volume optimised EQ and Bose digital signal processing make music sound full and balanced no matter the volume. Giving you up to 5 hours battery life in a single use, this isn’t the longest period of play time in the world for wireless headphones. However, Bose have come up with a nifty solution for charging on the go after giving the carry case the power to generate 2 extra charges which is up to an extra 10 hours of playback time. Not only that, if you remember before you need them that they’re running low on power, a quick 15 minute charge will give you an extra 45 minutes of battery life. You can also charge the traditional way through a USB cable which connects to the carry case from a PC or laptop.

SoundSport Free Wireless HeadphonesFree your lifestyle as well. Fit, stable and comfortable these in-ear headphones are designed to allow you to carry on with life in the most convenient way possible while effortlessly enjoying your favourite tracks while on the move. White for small, grey are medium and the large have a black coloured ring. The StayHear+ Sport tips spread contact with your ear evenly for security while the fin conforms to the natural shape of your ear for extra stability. Light as well, you will hardly notice that they are sitting inside your ear. SoundSport Free Wireless Headphones are also sweat and weather resistant, so makes these in-ear buds a perfect partner for enduring workouts whatever the weather. Misplace an earbud? Bose has you covered as the Bose Connect app can help to track them down.

If there was ever a phrase to define 2018, it would be ‘Smart Home’. A huge growth point in the retail market and it hasn’t been dismissed in new kitchen appliance technology either.

Mark Gook, store manager of our Gerald Giles store in Ber Street, Norwich explains that “Developments in kitchen appliances isn’t just about them being Smart. Manufacturers are pushing the boundaries on what is ‘traditional’ to what is now more efficient and practical for your home and lifestyle”.

KMDA 7774 FL Miele Induction Hob with Integrated Extraction and PowerFlex zones 1Take for example Miele’s new KMDA 7774 FL Induction hob with an integrated extractor. Challenging the ideal of a separate cooker hood and hob, Miele have combined the two making it easier for homes with Kitchen Islands to keep a contemporary feel while still maintaining a powerful extraction rate. Not the only impressive powerful feature in this hob, TwinBooster technology gives you 7.3kW which makes an impressively fast heat time so you can get your pans with a rolling boil in no time at all. An easy to clean touch screen lets you control the power and functions easily and is also quick to clean down at the end of a heavy cooking session.

With a generously sized 800mm width, this KMDA 7774 FL Induction Hob also gives you four cooking zones, two of these are PowerFlex zones so you can merge two zones into one large cooking area – ideal for large casserole dishes.

Frameless, this induction hob can be fitted seamlessly into a kitchen worktop or surface mounted and blends lovingly into any style of home. Despite having an integrated extractor fan, you can still fit extra storage underneath the hob thanks to the extraction space saving design.

Built-in technology programme Con@ctivity 2.0 automatically switches the extractor on and off and adjusts the extractor power to the cooking process. This way, you always have a pleasant room climate and can concentrate entirely on cooking. The extractor even switches off automatically when not needed, so by not wasting unnecessary energy it could save you money on your household bills.

Easy to clean, take apart the extractor filter box and grill and you can add them straight into your next dishwasher load. This will keep the extractor fan working as efficiently as possible with minimal effort from you.

If this induction hob with integrated extractor fan from Miele has inspired you, give our team at Gerald Giles a call to find out more.

Holding out for Black Friday before you buy your Christmas gifts? Good idea! Black Friday arrives this week on Friday 24th November and will bring some of our most exciting discounts and savings ever.

With online sales hitting a staggering £1.23 billion spent online on Black Friday 2016 there is no doubt that this year could be even bigger. Traffic in-store and online increases by 220% in comparison to a normal shopping day on Black Friday itself but why has this now yearly tradition come about?

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, an annual national holiday in North America held on the fourth Thursday in November. Although it’s not certain where Black Friday originated there are a few theories as to how this event came about.

The first theory is that the name came from the US state Philadelphia. It was supposedly referring to all the traffic and congestion caused by the volume of people off work the day after Thanksgiving. Black smoke from those vintage cars = Black Friday.

Another guess is that retailers have put a positive spin on the day, by saying that it’s the first day of the year where they turn from running at a financial loss (in the red) to black in the run up to Christmas.

So what can you expect from Black Friday at Gerald Giles, Norwich? Well, there will be huge discounts on Christmas gifts like headphones and portable bluetooth speakers all the way up to huge electrical items for your kitchen or living room. Well known household brands including Sony, Bosch, Miele, Samsung and Bose will all be included in our Black Friday savings so you should find something that you’ve been wanting to get your hands on.

Over the past few years, steam ovens have become increasingly popular with keen cooks around the country. Offering a unique and efficient way of cooking vegetables, fish and a range of other dishes, steam ovens can help to revolutionise the way you use your kitchen. If you’re considering investing in a steam oven but haven’t yet used one of these innovative appliances, we’re taking a closer look at Miele steam ovens and how they can aid your culinary prowess.

 The basics

Miele steam ovens heat food to between 40˚C and 100˚C. They reach their target temperature quickly and cook food gently and efficiently. Thanks to the unique way they work, steam ovens help to retain the textures, colours, aromas and nutritional content of vegetables, fish and other delicate foods. As Miele’s efficient steam ovens can be set to exceptionally exact temperatures (within 1˚C) it’s possible to cook a wide range of foods to perfection.

Functions

DGM 6600 Miele Steam Oven

As well as cooking fish, vegetables, pasta, rice, meat and pulses, Miele steam ovens can be used for a variety of other functions. You can quickly and gently defrost frozen food, prove dough, melt chocolate, make yoghurt, sterilise jars and baby bottles and even extract juice. All Miele steam ovens also feature dedicated sous vide programmes for slow cooking food in vacuum packaging at low temperatures. This allows you to create dishes that are beautifully tender and full of flavour.

Benefits

Using Miele steam ovens instead of traditional cookers has a range of benefits. As steam is continuously injected into the oven, odours and flavours are not transferred between dishes. This allows you to cook separate meals on up to three levels without fear of cross contamination. Miele steam ovens also come with a variety of set programmes. This means you can simply select the type of food you want to cook from the menu and your oven will cook the dish to perfection. Up to three automatic programmes can be selected at one time, with the temperature, timing and sequence set for you so all of the elements of your meal are ready at once.

Samsung are making sure that light and colour always come first with the announcement of their QLED TV series – recently described as their smartest ever TV. The new tribe of super-bright, super-vibrant TVs include the Q7, Q8 and Q9 and were introduced at Samsung’s Keep Memory Alive event in Las Vegas. With slick curved design and invisible fixtures, these cutting-edge TVs will fit seamlessly into your contemporary lifestyle.

So just what makes this new generation of smart TVs so special? The Q in QLED stands for quantum technology – which Samsung believes will revolutionise TV as we know it, creating ‘the most true to life picture on screen’.

The picture quality is one such element that marks out the QLED generation as real game-changers. The focus of this range is on the optical enhancement of the TV experience, and Samsung have not disappointed.

Samsung have managed to optimise the screen size whilst retaining incredibly sharp picture quality, as the QLED technology has the ability to produce 100% colour volume, no matter what the level of brightness. The way that this innovative technology works is by each pixel of colour being illuminated by an LED backlight of Quantum Dots. Despite the similarity in names, this contrasts to Sony’s OLED range, which instead creates high definition colour by calling on each pixel to provide its own illumination.

Even when at a dazzling luminosity (between 1,500 and 2,000 nits), the eye can clearly register subtle shifts in colour, creating a stunning image. Samsung’s Quantum Dot material, which allows the screen to display colour in a much greater level of detail, means that previously problematic colours like deep black can now appear vibrantly, which enhances your viewing experience.

The QLED also prioritises compact design, coming with a no-fuss picture frame wall mount and only one plug socket required even when used in conjunction with a the new Samsung Soundbar range. The separate media box uses one cable to ensure a clean finish and helps the QLED to avoid a mess of cables and wall mountings cluttering your home.

Appealing to all smartphone users, the QLED is also linked to the Smart View app, allowing you to access the remote control and game controller, which means no more lost remotes! So, as Samsung have said themselves, this might just be the next big innovation in TV.
